A story of two sisters attempting to find happiness in the tightly structured society of 18th century England. Elinor, disciplined, restrained and very conscious of the manners of the day, represents sense. Outspoken, impetuous, emotional Marianne represents sensibility.

Colonel Brandon organised a picnic for all at Barton but was called to London at the last moment and cancelled it. Undeterred, Willoughby took Marianne for a drive by herself.
3. Part 3: Sisters in Misfortune
Aired 23 January 1971
Mrs Jennings took Elinor and Marianne to a ball in London. There Marianne at last saw Willoughby but was dismayed when he ignored her.
4. Part 4: Resolution
Aired 30 January 1971
Col. Brandon heard that Mrs Ferrars had cut Edward off because of his engagement. He asked Elinor to take a message to Edward, little knowing the effect this might have on her.
