In 2018, a fourteen-year-old boy named John Aubrey Peal III from Mississippi uses a popular 'voice and text chat' app for gamers, hoping to find others interested in gaming. He strikes up an online friendship with a man named Jason, who claims he is suicidal. Concerned, Aubrey agrees to meet Jason, not realizing Jason's evil intentions.
