When Principal Diego breaks up with her husband, Annie and Nikki befriend their now-vulnerable nemesis to get her to write letters of recommendation for Sophie and Mackenzie, who are applying for a competitive college prep summer program. Meanwhile Matt asks Jack's assistant out on a date despite his objection.

Best friends and single moms Annie and Nikki were high school outcasts who have gone out of their ways to give their daughters what they felt they lacked. Proving no good deed goes unpunished, all the freedom and clothes they have bestowed on the girls has turned them into exactly the kind of girls who made the mothers' teen years difficult. The women lean on each other and their exes, whose involvement sometimes makes the situation more difficult, as they try to make things right and straighten their girls out.
