But since the first oil discoveries on the Ekofisk field in 1969, Norway has grown into a technological and economic superpower, mainly thanks to the large revenues from the seabed on the Norwegian Continental Shelf . In 1965 Stavanger one of the poorest cities. Today the city is a world leader in the oil business.
