It was announced in November 2009 that Lance Smith would be leaving the show in December 2009. Evan Farmer took over as the show's new host on January 22, 2010. He left the show in November 2012. The show ended at the end of 2012, December 28, 2012 being its last episode. An all new countdown started up again on January 5, 2013. The new show is titled "CMT Hot 20 Countdown".
