The United States Steel Hour is an anthology series which brought hour-long dramas to television from 1953 to 1963. The television series and the radio program that preceded it were both sponsored by the United States Steel Corporation.

In “The Mating Machine,” we meet four people involved with such a gadget — Geraldine Brooks, who runs it; Diana Lynn, as a waitress who mistakes Miss Brooks’ office for an employment agency: John Ericson, as a physicist who thinks he needs a wile, selected scientifically, and George Grizzard, as a disbeliever, They are all thrown together a bit too concidentally, but after that, it is every man (and woman) for himself (or herself).
