In the first episode of the series, a young Vietnamese refugee named Vo Diem arrives and unwittingly becomes entangled in a developer's criminal scheme to displace the Wilson family from the island.

The Collector
Sgt. Connolly places Vo Diem in a prison cell and instructs Charlie to charge him with vandalism. An explosion occurs near Greg as he swims away from Butterfly Island.

Following a disagreement with his uncle, Vo Diem elects to leave once more.
The Fugitive
After trying to escape and search for his parents, Vo Diem is caught in a storm at sea and comes ashore near a lighthouse, where he hears David Lee and his associates discussing plans to set fire to Butterfly Island.
